Kaduna state governor, Nasir el-Rufa’i, weekend in Zaria said a survey the government conducted showed that Nigerian leaders that were trained at public schools led to the collapse of public education.

The governor made this known during the 25th Annual General Meeting of the Zaria Education Development Association (ZEDA), describing the trend as unfortunate.

He added: "If education is that important; then why is it that in the last 30 years or so various governments, both military and civilian,have failed to invest in education. What happened to us; how comes all of us that were quality products of public education somehow abandoned it. 

How many of us have enough confidence in our public school system to send our children? We collectively took a decision that no matter what it takes; no matter what it costs; no matter the prize, we will restore what is good in public education.”

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, said a nation without education has no future. He called for investment in education, saying that the sector remains a critical factor in the development of any state.

General Abubakar lamented the large number of out of school children that are domicile in Northern Nigeria.

He appealed to Nigerians to live in peace with one another, as no nation can achieve its objectives without peace.

The Chairman, ZEDA Board of Trustees, Professor Idris Abdulkadir,enumerated the achievements recorded by the association in the last 25years. These include establishment of 100-seater capacity Digital Training Centre, development of infrastructure, training of over 5,000 youths on various vocations, among others.
