What Reverend Ikebude attempted to do in this book was to investigatewhat King David did to gain the approval of God. He didn’t just point out some of the distinguishing characteristics of the king, but, like a teacher of the Bible, Ikebude, explored each of those elements in order to demystify them and ensure that today’s Christians identify and emulate them.

The overriding theme in the book is the fact that Christians who follow the examples of King David would triumph in various aspects of their endavours. Hence, the word “champion” became the inseperable prefix of most of the chapters of the book. Beginning with David’s humility through his boldness, conviction, mentoring, wisdom and understanding, Reverend Ikebude attempts to impress on his readers that whatever King David did to achieve his enduring feat can be imitated by other Christians.

The author does not deceive his readers into thinking that by merely imitating the lifestyle of King David they would achieve victory. Reverend Ikebude underscores the fact that it is only through God that victory can be attained. However, the most exciting thing is that if a Christian obey’s God’s instructions, the Almighty can even give his enemies false hope that would lead to such an enemy’s doom. Reverend Ikebude gave copious examples of how God dealt with the enemies of the ‘children of God.’ Among those who faced the wrath of God included, Nebuchadnezzar, Goliath, Pharoah, and even Satan.

Why should Christians read The Secrets of David? Actually, what the 92-page book does is to encourage Christians never to give up, but to square up to the challenges of life, even if such challenges come from Satan, because victory is certain for them on account of the fact that they are backed by the greatest power in the universe – God. The kind of victory available to Christians is not just physical; it is also spiritual. The author attempts to establish the fact that spiritual victory can  lead to physical victory.

Reverend Ikebude, an aircraft maintenance engineer, has held several leadership positions, including that of Zaria zonal president of the Nigerian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (NIFES). At present, he heads a ministry that is involved in evangelism, missions and leadership development. Reverend Ikebude is married with children.
