Four foremost literary arts teachers have called on Nigerian students to place much emphasis on local literary arts, including literature.
Head of Department (HOD) English and Literary Studies, University of Calabar, Associate Professor Francis Ibe Mogu and his counterpart from the Pan African University Lagos Prof. Emevwo Biakolo gave the advice in their different lectures at University of Calabar during the 24th International Conference on African Literature and The English Language (ICALEL).
They spoke on the theme: “African Literature, the English Language and Trans-culturalism.”
They said that literary arts students should focus on the study of African literature, literature of the Nigerian tribes instead of amplifying European, Caribbean and African-American arts.
