Chairman Board of the LACN Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN) who disclosed this recently in Abuja during a pre-conference press briefing said that the event which is jointly organized by the LACN and PRAWA will focus on mentally ill prisoners.
According to him the conference which is slated for September this year will focus on three stages of mental health.
“The first stage, before the persons are apprehended and taken for trial, at this time the mental health has been completely discountenanced. When a person is arrested one of the first things to know is his mental state to stand trial. The second stage is the mental stage among inmates. Here the existing provisions are inadequate; and finally the mental issues that may arise after an inmate has served his term and about to be returned to society’, Chief Ayorinde said.
He said further that experts have been invited to share ideas so as to come out with frame work which will be institutionalised.
