The United States is famously litigious amongst its peers around the world, with entire corporate ecosystems dedicated to navigating the hair-trigger flood of lawsuits ranging from the occasionally righteous and justified, to the frivolous and malicious. As a result, there are over 1.3 million lawyers active in the United States alone, according to the American Bar Association. When the average business faces five lawsuits in its lifetime, it’s completely reasonable for any business or individual professional to look for partners and resources that can protect them, and their assets, from inevitable legal disruptions.

Doctors and medical professionals are especially vulnerable to frivolous lawsuits, given the often sensitive nature of their work. The fallout from even a successfully defended legal case can strip these professionals of the hard-earned savings and assets they’ve built over their careers—not to mention the consequences of a failed defense. Even when the practitioner in question has done no wrong, these legal disruptions can directly cause a great deal of stress and hardship. However, despite the prevalence of legal professionals across the country, only a tiny fraction of them specialize in lawsuit or asset protection.

Legally Mine was founded to address precisely that discrepancy. As one of the first asset protection firms in the United States, and with nearly twenty years under the leadership of current owner Dan McNeff, Legally Mine’s mission to protect members’ assets and reduce medical professionals’ liability has been proven valuable time and time again. Through education on business and entity structuring, the construction of asset protection plans, and experts in tax strategy and estate planning readily available, Legally Mine leverages a holistic strategy to protect their thousands of members from legal attack.

Foundations of Legally Mine

Located in Orem, Utah, Legally Mine has served over 15,000 members since 2007 with their team of attorneys and paralegals specializing in asset protection, tax savings, medical license defense, and estate planning. The company also has a physical address in Alaska, allowing Legally Mine to provide Registered Agent services in both Alaska, and the continental United States. Beyond their regional locations, many of Legally Mine’s 50 employees and agents often travel around the country to attend meetings and educate medical professionals on asset protection and legal strategy.

Legally Mine grew out of Jay Mitton’s creation of the first asset protection firm in the United States, eventually coming under the leadership of Dan McNeff, a direct student of Mitton, in 2007. After the transfer, Legally Mine developed a new business model which enabled them to carry the majority of the workload for their members, rather than merely educating them and trusting them to implement these complex concepts independently. These changes are what allow Legally Mine to effectively provide doctors across the country with liability reduction and lawsuit protection.

Service Offering And Department Breakdown

Legally Mine leverages its over 50 employees to help medical professionals in a number of ways, distributed across a handful of specific departments. The full breadth of Legally Mine’s service offering includes the education of business owners and doctors, fulfillment for members, asset protection attorneys and paralegals, tax savings strategy advice, and estate planning services. The result is a holistic approach to asset protection and tax strategy, letting doctors focus on their patient and not the risk of frivolous lawsuits.

Legally Mine’s expert team is divided amongst five specialized departments that serve different roles in a members’ asset protection plan. Each of these departments operate under one roof, but by focusing on their individual roles and specialties Legally Mine is able to optimize their team’s service and results. The departments are Client Coordination, Entity Creation, Legal, Executive Directors, and Speakers and Away Sales Team (AST).

The Client Coordination department acts as the face of the company, gathering necessary information from Legally Mine’s members and guiding them through setting up their asset protection structure. This team is the most hands-on with Legally Mine’s membership, scheduling legal appointments, answering emails and phone calls, and holding appointments with members.

Entity Creation works with state bureaucracies and the IRS to actually create entities on behalf of our members, including any amendments requested after initial fulfillment. Entity specialists continuously communicate with members throughout this process to provide status updates and gather necessary information.

Legally Mine’s Legal department is composed of attorneys who specialize in asset protection, tax strategy, and estate planning. Creating individualized asset protection plans for each member (based on the information gathered by the member’s client coordinator) makes sure that each member’s needs are addressed and prepared for. These plans are regularly reviewed with members both for accuracy and comprehension before moving on to the entity creation process, after which another appointment will be used to review all of the documents that have been created and sent to them for their entities. Other appointments members may have with the legal department include tax strategy appointments and estate planning appointments with attorneys. These often lead to the creation of living trusts, and make sure members are aware of any tax savings strategies that their asset protection structures will make available to them.

Legally Mine’s Executive Director department collaborates with medical associations across the United States to set up speaking arrangements and educational opportunities. These events may take the form of educational seminars on lawsuits and liability, discussions on the role of asset protection as a whole, and so on. The executive director who books these events with medical associations will maintain regular communication in order to keep events flowing smoothly.

The Speakers and Away Sales Team are made up of individual speakers and agents that are, once trained, sent off to events around the country. Their entire job is to travel to events and present educational seminars, then answer any questions that attendees at the event might have regarding the information covered. Speakers and AST can enroll any new members who would like to purchase services, making them a critical component of Legally Mine’s communication strategy.
