Ahead of their second Group C match against Tunisia, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have been charged to defend better and ensure clinical finishing to overcome the hurdle before them.
This advice was given by a former Nigerian international and member of the 1990 AFCON silver winning squad, Moses Kpakor, when he spoke to Daily Trust yesterday on tomorrow’s clash with Tunisia in Fez.
The Super Eagles opened their campaign with a slim 2-1 victory over Tanzania, leaving many football fans who wanted a comprehensive victory disappointed.
The Super Eagles dominated proceedings in the first half but poor finishing especially in the second half allowed the Taifa Stars to claw back into the contest, creating a nervy finish to what was supposed to be an easy win for the former African champions.
In the other group match, Tunisia dominated Uganda 3-1 to go top of Group C on superior goal difference.
Victory over Tunisia will not only give the Super Eagles group leadership but brighten their chances of finishing top of the table.
Kpakor, therefore, charged the Super Eagles to show more hunger and fighting spirit than they did against Tanzania.
“The Super Eagles won their opening match which was good for team spirit but against Tunisia, one of the best teams in the continent, they must show more seriousness and determination.
“They must avoid unnecessary mistakes. Any mistakes would prove costly because their opponents are well experienced and capable of punishing them.
“I am sure they had a team talk after the win against Tanzania. These are some of the things they should discuss among themselves.
“At this level, the strikers are not supposed to throw away begging opportunities. If chances are created, they must be converted, if not, it would turn round to haunt them as it almost happened against Tanzania,” said the former “Policeman” of Nigerian football.
The BCC Lions and Abiola Babes legend, therefore, urged the Super Eagles to ensure that they avoid defeat against Tunisia in order to qualify for the next round.
