Nyako, who spoke with newsmen shortly after submitting his forms for Expression of Interest and Nomination at the Wadata Headquarters of PDP in Abuja, said his chances to be re-elected were very good.
When asked on the reason why he obtained forms despite his case challenging the provision of Electoral Act that shortened his tenure, he responded, “I am in for 2011. If the court comes up and says its previous ruling stands, that my tenure should begin on the day that I was sworn in the last time, they will decide whether I will have to have a new election or this election will suffice.”
The governor, who said he was not intimidated by any governorship aspirant, stated that in any democratic setting, ‘Anybody interested can join the race’.
Speaking after a similar exercise performed by Nyako, Oyo State Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala said he had a very strong shock-absorber to absorb all the oppositions within the PDP.
Akala, who said that ‘by the grace of God come 2011, PDP will still rule Oyo State with him at the helm of affairs’, promised to reach out to aggrieved members by reconciling and begging them.
He denied ever stopping all the ongoing projects in Oyo State because of 2011 general elections, calling on the people of the state to keep on supporting him and the PDP to continue to enjoy dividends of democracy.
The seventeen current governors that have submitted their forms so far include that of Oyo, Akwa-Ibom, Delta, Plateau, Katsina, Nasarawa, Bauchi, Plateau, Niger, Cross River, Abia, Zamfara, Benue, Jigawa, Adamawa and Kebbi, Taraba.
Those who submitted their forms for governorship election yesterday were Gidado Muhammad Abana (Taraba) and Tanko Al-Makura.
