Right now, about six states of the federation are battling Monkey Pox and it is sad that we allowed the outbreak which started in Bayelsa State, to spread to others. If adequate care had been taken immediately the case was reported, we wouldn’t be where we are now.
All relevant authourities should rise to the occasion and address this problem as soon as possible. This year, we have had disease outbreaks including meningitis, Lassa fever and recently resistant malaria in some states and that is not a good development. These outbreaks again bring to the fore the state of our health care system. As a country we need to have a health care system that is prepared at all times to tackle emergencies. Also, to check the spread of Monkey Pox, there is a need for massive campaigns. People need to know the causes of the disease and how to avoid it. Till date, many people do not know about the disease and that should be addressed as soon as possible.
Government at all levels should work together to rid the country of this disease like we did with the Ebola outbreak.
