It is no longer news that Nigerians live daily with petrol scarcity. For many, it is now part of their everyday life.

It is clear that the recurring scarcity has much to do with the government’s inability to sort out the issue of subsidy it pays on the product.

I believe the only way out is for the government to immediately remove the subsidy. Retaining the subsidy provides opportunity for the marketers to continue to enrich themselves to the detriment of the country.

Often, petroleum products are smuggled to neighbouring countries where the prices are higher after the government must have paid for the subsidy here. The result is that the maketers make double gain.

The earlier the government considers reoving subsidy, the better for all of us.
