Let voters make hay while it’s still sunny

Our newspapers and television stations carry a deluge of verbiage spewed daily on the people as campaign promises, even though such windy talks stand far apart from the yearnings and desires of voters. Cries of ‘’change’’ and ‘’continuity’’ are rife in the air; attacks on the personality of the politicians are viral rather than the issues they seek power to solve. Just as accusations fly in the face of each political camp to charge up the polity.
All these characterise the activities of this moment as the politicians in this clime would prefer it to be seen. Though in a nascent democracy the electorates (the people) are those to make their society what they desire, a dictum warns us all, as it says ‘’it is how one makes his bed that one would lay on it’’. To behave in like manner, we must therefore examine the wide array of politicians before making our choices. It is only wise we do it now that politicians schmooze in the name of canvassing for votes.
The electorates should scrutinise their actions and inactions, knowing that Nigerian politicians cover their tracks with sweet talks that never follow them into the office they win. Such political speeches are masterly delivered and may not throw up those politicians as blatant liars but one could view their pep talk from the prism of their antecedents. As electorates who would like to walk with the carriage of patriotic Nigerians, it is only right to get ourselves to the PVC collection centres in order to have an opportunity to perform the obligation of exercising their civic right come March 28th and April 11, 2015. We should all vote; and not only that, vote with our consciences wide awake.
As a wrap up, the song of the legendary Jamaican Reggae Star Robert Nester Marley comes handy. It says “who the cap fits, let them wear it”.
