I was shocked and devastated when I learnt that the peaceful demonstration by youths in Sabon gari local government of Kaduna State to protest the non-availability of electric power in their area was later turned violent where four lives were reported to be lost to police gun shots. I believe the citizens should be free to express their feelings (though excesses should be curbed). The Kaduna State government should call the police to order. The police should learn to manage people better. Human being should not be treated as animals or criminals for voicing out their grievances.

On 7-point agenda   

From the leaflets distributed during the 7-point agenda campaign recently in Azare, it seemed that the implementation of the agenda will have to wait until 2020. If this is so, then our President is better advised to start with the fight against corruption. Corruption is the virus that will hamper the achievement of the 7-point agenda.

The positive stride in Kaduna politics

The good people of Kaduna State are daily feeling the good impact of Gov. Sambo’s 11-point agenda right at their doorsteps. Indeed, his impressive record has replaced cynicism and pessimism with renewal of hope in democratic governance. He has endeared himself to the voters for giving priority to issues affecting the people in areas of security, housing, water project, education, health, poverty alleviation, youth and women empowerment among others.

On democracy day

Ten years of democracy in Nigeria is nothing but a decade of the emergence of political winners and losers, unfulfilled promises and much lamentation.  It is a decade of songs but little to celebrate. It is a decade of zero accountability and misrepresentation. True and sincere voting procedure that will ensure the emergence of genuine representatives of the people and qualitative leadership is what will restore our democracy.

Gov. Imoke should stop casting blames

I was disappointed reading Governor Imoke of Cross River State in the media lamenting that Cross River State is now insolvent as a result of its ceding 76 oil wells to the neighbouring Akwa Ibom. Imoke should stop blaming others for his failures. He is a governor and should do and think of the right things and ways to make the state great. First, he should realize that most states in Nigeria do not depend on oil for revenue generation. He was once quoted as saying that Tinapa alone, when functional, could generate the required revenue for Cross River State. He should explore this and many avenues and stop putting blames where they don’t belong.

Remembering Abacha

June 11th will be exactly eleven years after the demise of late Gen. Sani Abacha and he would be remembered for many things both negative and positive, that is true. But to me, the late general will be remembered 70-80% positively compared with the present situation we are experiencing in our country.   Abacha’s blueprint for societal security and progress, peaceful co-existence and national development cannot be faulted.

Rebranding made easy

I will like to make the minister of information’s job an easy one in her quest to rebrand this “precious” nation of ours. As we are made to believe that the project is geared towards achieving attitudinal change among Nigerians, it will be good if the project focuses on the major behaviour Nigerians exhibit. Nigerian kids and adults make cheers and celebrate by shouting whenever PHCN or is it NEPA “bring light”. This behaviour is very bad. Rebranding will work if the minister informs the boss of the electricity agency to correct this Nigerian behaviour by ensuring relative supply of power.
