The Leventis Foundation Nigeria (LFN) has trained 14 corps members on farming and agriculture for them to be self-reliant after their service year.

The training which was organized by the foundation, through its agriculture school was in conjunction with the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Department (SAED) FCT of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Principal of LFN agriculture school, Agnes Yusuf, during the graduation of the participants said the training was organized to attract and train youths for enhanced sustainable livelihood after a study conducted shows that Nigeria’s farming population is aging due to lack of adequate participation of youth in the sector.

“The foundation entered into an MoU with NYSC to absorb and train corps members into our training programme at our six schools across the country. This is to turn them into well-groomed and focused modern farmers using eco-friendly methods to sustain their business.”

The Executive Director of LFN, Dr. Hope Usieta, stated that the goals of the programme are to promote sustainability in agriculture and environment protection through the training of youths and farmers in sustainable agribusiness.

“What better way to achieve this goal than to partner with the apex body in Nigeria that is tasked with youth mobilisation for nation building.”
