Leverage on FG empowerment schemes, youths urged

The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Nigeria has raised an alarm over the high rate of unemployment as it urged youths to leverage on the opportunities provided through various empowerment schemes by the federal government.

The President of JCI, Abiola Olorunnisola, at a press conference in Lagos, however pledged partnership with the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports to ensure the deserving youths benefit from the various programmes.

He said the JCI would be organizing economic summits and forums in partnership with the Bank of Industry as well as the Chamber of Commerce within and outside Nigeria to tackle unemployment.

Abiola said over 30,000 youths are being targeted for the programmes.

“We have been in discussion with the Ministry of Youth on how we can partner to ensure that this high rate of unemployment is reduced.

“Some of our youths also didn’t take advantage of the programmes that the Ministry has.

“If you log on to their website, you would see that there are a lot of fantastic opportunities for youths of the country to tap into but most of our youths didn’t check the information but they are there on their website.”

Olorunnisola disclosed that the organisation has initiated JCI Rise, “to sustain and rebuild economies and strengthen workforce morale as we face the impact of COVID-19 pandemic together.

“JCI will continue to sustain its existing projects such as the peace is possible advocacy campaign project, as well as the I am Naija campaign aimed to educate, unite and engage all Nigerians in promoting our national identity and also creating a peaceful nation for all.”
