Local government workers in Ogun State have expressed satisfaction over the recent passage of the bill on local government autonomy by the State House of Assembly.

 The leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), which gave the commendation on behalf of the workers, noted the lawmakers have written their names in gold for the feat.

 The NULGE National President, Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel, who spoke with newsmen in Abeokuta, said the grassroots would be at advantage for the step.

 Both chambers of the National Assembly had, in 2017, passed into law the draft amendment on Local Government reform.

 The bill, however, requires the passage by, at least, 24 state Houses of Assembly to become a law.

 The National Treasurer of NULGE, Comrade Akeem Ambali, speaking on behalf of Comrade Khaleel said the union would continue to lobby relevant stakeholders in the country towards achieving their objective.

 Ambali expressed optimism that the passage of the bill would stem the tide of incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers through effective policing at the grassroot level.
