Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has commended the Supreme Court on local government autonomy, but said he has some reservations.

Nwifuru stated this on Saturday while speaking to newsmen shortly after casting his vote in the council election at his polling unit in Edukwu Okenmini 002, Oferekpe, Izzi LGA, adding that governors were studying the ruling,

Thirteen council chairmen and 117 ward councilors were being elected in the state.

He disclosed that 11 political parties participated in the election which was marred by voters apathy and early rain.

Daily Trust observed that the rain which lasted about three hours, disrupted the election and submerged some buildings in some parts of state.

“The local government autonomy is right. I agree with the Supreme Court in so many areas and in some areas, I have reservations. However, we (governors) are still studying the judgement.

“And after studying the judgement, all of us will come together and see the outcome of the judgement. Like I said earlier, but for me, I believe in a democratically elected chairman in our local government and it is good for Nigeria.

“Again, I’m very delighted that despite the rain, people are coming to vote. It gladdens my heart and encourages me. This is free election, nobody is quarreling and 11 political parties are here. I am very sure that at the end of the day, this atmosphere will be maintained until EBSIEC will declare the winner of the election,” he said.
