LG Electronics reiterates commitment to taekwondo tourney

Speaking at the event, the Assistant Manager, LG Electronics West Africa Operations, Mr. Sang Heon, Song said, ‘our sponsorship of this championship dates back to the year 2006. It is born out of our conviction to encourage the development of the sport taekwondo in Nigeria as well as other African countries. More importantly, the game affords us an opportunity to support and encourage our consumers in their talents and passions that will enable them fulfill their aspirations in life”.

Mr. Song added that LG Electronics’ support for taekwondo will go a long way in raising the standard and as well create awareness that will stir the interest of consumers to become active participants in future competitions in Nigeria and beyond.

The winners of the tournament were full of appreciation and thanked LG Electronics for their immense support to the game. The male and female athletes reiterated that they look forward to the training tour in Korea next year.

The event which held from the 2nd – 5th of December, 2010 at the Package B of the Abuja National Stadium had in attendance Benin, Togo, Mali, Niger and the host country Nigeria.

In addition, a total of 10 Nigerian States and other institutions such as The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, The Navy and University of Benin took part in the championship with the Kano State team emerging the over all winners with five gold and two silver medals.

All medalists went home with various LG gift items ranging from Micro Wave Ovens, LCD TVs, DVD players, KP500 and GX200 Mobile phones.
