Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has yesterday revealed that the fight for local government autonomy is not the association’s affair alone but a collective responsibility that needs all hands to be on deck for its actualization.

National President NULGE Comrade Ibrahim Khalil made the call in Kano during a press conference held after a meeting between Civil Societies, media and organized labour groups organised by Partnership to Engage Reform and Learn (PERL). According to him it is disturbing to notice that as important as the local government autonomy is, many states Assemblies in the federation have decided to put it aside for no concreate reason.

“This development has call for the need of collective effort by all stakeholders in ensuring that the bill sees the light of the day. The fight is not for NULGE alone, we have to collectively address issues that will compel for adoption especially at this critical political period,” said the NULGE president.

In his address Senator Bala Adamu of Friends of Democracy urged for the establishment of a workable synergy between all actors in working together for the actualization of local government autonomy.
