The Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGVCON), has expressed sadness over the death of elder statesman and former President of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari.

The group’s national chairman, Lawrence Onuchukwu, said the nation has lost a patriotic, detribalised and humble leader.

Onuchukwu, who is also the Vice Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), in a statement he signed, yesterday, said the members were saddened by the death of Shagari but take solace in his legacies, which he noted have earned him an enviable place in the nation’s history.

“Notably, Shagari’s administration encouraged rapid systematic economic development especially grassroots advancement in the country, which without military intervention, Nigeria would have been better today,” he said.
