The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), Western Zone, has called on members to intensify efforts in grooming under-18 golfers to ensure Nigeria’s future representation at continental level.

Vice President of the zone, Evelyn Balogun, made this appeal at the closing ceremony of the 10th Western Zone Open Golf Championship, held at Crosscreek Golf Club, Ilado, Akure recently.

She praised participants for their resilience, noting that they braved difficult weather conditions to compete.

Balogun stressed that the championship was not solely about winning trophies but about commitment, participation, and the friendships nurtured through the game. “This tournament celebrates perseverance, camaraderie, and the quiet strength of every woman golfer,” she said.

According to her, excellence in golf goes beyond titles. “Excellence means passion, respect, and courage, not just winning trophies,” she added. Balogun further explained that her role in the event was “to support, organise, and lead a team of resilient and enthusiastic lady golfers.”

Also speaking at the event, LGAN President, Evelyn Oyome, who was represented by Joyce Nule, congratulated the golfers for their spirited performance and urged greater unity in future competitions.

She expressed appreciation to lady captains and participants for their leadership, vision, and unwavering dedication to the sport.
