The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigeria Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) as preparations intensify for the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT).
The agreement, signed in Abuja on June 16, 2026, underscores a shared commitment to advancing sports diplomacy, continental cooperation and inclusive development through golf and networking collaborations.
The Director-General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar O. Suliaman, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to the partnership, describing it as one that would benefit Nigeria and the sporting world.
He noted that the collaboration aligns with a broader vision of using sports as a vehicle for economic growth, gender inclusion, tourism and international engagement.
“Sports is a major factor that unites countries and we are delighted to put our weight behind this project and see to it that it succeeds,” he said.
The MoU was formally signed by Prof. Suliaman and LGAN President, Dr. Lami Onayi Ahmed, during the latter’s visit to the institute with members of her delegation.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Ahmed described the AACT as one of Africa’s premier women’s golf championships and a key platform for promoting the game among women across the continent.
According to her, the partnership reflects the institute’s longstanding commitment to sports development and initiatives that foster an enabling environment for golf and business networking.
AACT 2026 is expected to attract delegations from more than 30 African countries, providing another avenue for strengthening Pan-African relations.
A major attraction of the championship will be the innovative Sports-to-Business Investment Pavilion themed “Africa Trades in Abuja,” which is designed to connect sports with enterprise and investment opportunities across the continent.
“The Sports to business investment pavilion and networking segment is an integral part of the tournament which will elevate business participation and enhance Nigeria’s reputation on the international investment stage,” she said.
