The Jigawa State Local Government Service Commission has allayed the fear of primary school teachers on constant payment of their salaries if local government  councils become autonomous saying, teachers salary is always on first line charge.
Chairman of the commission, Kabir Hassan Sugugun, while speaking with Daily Trust in Dutse, said with the teachers’ salaries on first line charge, it means that before the councils get their statutory allocations, salaries would be deducted.
He, therefore, enjoined the teachers to be calm, adding that there is nothing to be worried about.
“I am not against local government areas autonomy because teachers salaries is on first line charges. This means that their salaries will be deducted even before the statutory allocations of local governments are given to them. Under this arrangement, the issue of not paying teachers does not even arise,” he said.
Sugungu stated that under his leadership, workers welfare would be given due attention.
“Training and re-training of local government staff will be accorded the priority they deserve. All those qualified will be promotion as at when due,” he said.
He also charged local government staff to be dedicated to their duties as the present administration in the state would not condole any form of indiscipline from any person or group of persons.
