The Governments of the Republic of Liberia and Nigeria have strengthened bilateral ties in an effort to unlock the Agenda 2063 of the African Union.
The Agenda 2063 of the African Union’s (AU), launched in 2015 is the strategic master plan for transforming the continent into a global powerhouse.
Speaking at the Liberia-Nigeria Trade and Investment Forum with the theme: “Building Bridges for Shared Prosperity: Strengthening Liberia–Nigeria Trade and Investment Partnership,” Sara Besolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Liberia in her special address underscored the importance of the existing relationship between two countries.
She stressed the need for combined effort to create sustainable pathways to build the future of the continent.
“We need to be having these kind of conversations right here in West Africa about how we work together that goes beyond just talking about bilateral agreements government to government but goes deeper into how we marry what is available in both countries, marry skills, natural and financial resources to make sure that we build a West Africa and an Africa that we all can be part of in terms of Agenda 2063 of the African Union,” she said.
The Honorary Consul to the Republic of Liberia in Lagos, Dapo Akinosun SAN, emphasized the need to deepen the bilateral ties in an effort to yield shared prosperity.
“We are not gathered merely to celebrate friendship, but convert friendship into factories, goodwill into goods and services, handshakes into investments and long-standing diplomatic relations into jobs and shared prosperity,” he said.
He stressed that the forum served as a strategic platform for fostering dialogue, facilitating partnerships and promoting investment across sectors critical to the economic growth of both countries.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment of the Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole and Madam Magdalene E. Dagoseh, Minister of Commerce and Industry, the Republic of Liberia, underscored the importance of stronger regional economic integration, private sector collaboration and investment-led growth in advancing Africa’s development agenda.
The forum organised through the Embassy of Liberia in Nigeria and the Office of the Honorary Consul General of Liberia in Lagos, witnessed the gathering of government leaders, investors, business executives, development partners and policymakers to strengthen economic cooperation and unlock new opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.
Throughout the Forum, participants engaged in high-level investment presentations, sector-focused discussions, Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Government (B2G) meetings, providing a platform to explore investment opportunities across agriculture, energy, infrastructure, mining, technology and the digital economy, and tourism.
