The Dean of West African diplomats in Abuja and Deputy Dean of all African Ambassadors in Nigeria Prof. Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, Ambassador of Liberia to Nigeria, has been appointed to serve as acting President of the University of Liberia for a three month period.
The appointment was announced recently by the newly elected President of Liberia, Joseph Nyumah Boakai as part of his initiation of policies to reform the country’s educational system.
Dr. Al- Hassan Conteh is one of West Africa’s most experienced academic scholars who served as a professor in several American universities before returning home to serve as President of the University of Liberia from 2004 to 2008 when he was appointed Ambassador to Nigeria.
In that period, he was a co-founder of the Association of Liberian Universities and served as the Association’s pioneer Vice President of Academic Affairs.

In a meeting with the University’s Board of Trustees one day after his special assignment was announced Ambassador Conteh called on the University of Liberia family to support each other and continue to create a nurturing environment for UL Students, Faculty, and Staff.
“We are currently going through a transition at the University. This time may seem uncertain, but with hope and collaboration, we can bring about positive change,” he said.
Dr. Conteh will continue to hold his diplomatic post in Abuja while carrying out his special home assignment over a three month period, a statement read.
