Lions Club renovates school in Abuja community, repairs borehole, toilets

The Abuja Mega Lions Club, on Thursday, commissioned two blocks of classrooms it renovated at LEA Primary School, Saburi, Dei-Dei, FCT.

Daily Trust reports that the club also completed and furnished other classrooms; renovated the restrooms; repaired the borehole that wasn’t working; donated exercise books; planted some trees within the school premises and gave scholarships to two pupils from primary 5 to secondary school level.

Speaking during the event, president of the club, Folashade Olaifa, said they were part of the club’s signature projects for the year 2023/24.

She said a member of the club had volunteered to provide uniforms and sandals to all the pupils.

Olaifa said subject to availability of funds and prioritization of already identified needs, the club would certainly do more in the school and other communities.

According to her, the club had provided much-needed help and support through various needs based projects to people of Abuja and its environs.

She said: “We wanted to do our part for society and one of the things we realize is that education is key. We need education for children, especially from the primary sector. So, they have to be able to learn in an environment which is suitable for them, which was one of the reasons why we chose this school to rehabilitate.

“We’ve undertaken this project to ensure that the children, given a stable place to learn. This is just the beginning for us with the school, definitely we’ll also make sure we keep up with the management of the school to ensure that they maintain it.”

On other areas the club had impacted, she said: “We are into childhood cancer, pediatric cancer. We’ve done a lot of awareness campaigns towards that. We were at the National Hospital last month to carry out a project on pediatric cancer where we donated N150,000 to seven patients in the ward.

“That’s actually what Lions Club International is all about, of which Abuja Mega is one of the clubs.”
