The newly elected District Governor, Lions Clubs International, District 404-A2 Nigeria, Asiwaju Jide Bello, says Lions Clubs is building a massive eye care centre in Minna, Niger State.
Addressing newsmen at the weekend in Abuja on the side-lines of his presentation and fundraising for projects, Bello urged the private sector to support the government in providing eye care service to the people.
He said the club also intended to assist the government in feeding Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
He said: “Our major focus for the year 2022/2023 is sight preservation. This was necessitated after we carried out a needs assessment. We have a plan of building an eye care complex in Minna, Niger State and it’s going to cost us over N150 million.
“We’ve started the process. We’ve met with the stakeholders in Minna and also the governor. We’ve been allocated the land. So, after this presentation, we’ll kick into action and start the building.”
Commissioner for Health, Niger State, Muhammad Makusidi, said the intervention was apt and timely, noting: “Though in Niger, we already had a roadmap to have a befitting eye centre. So, when this came on board, we were overwhelmed.”
