Ten things to know about sacked DSS boss, Lawal Daura

After the termination of the appointment of the Director General of the State Security Service, Lawal Daura, here are the things you need to know about the former security chief.

1. Lawal Daura was born on August 1953 in Daura, a town in Katsina State, Northern Nigeria.

2. He received a bachelor’s degree from Ahmadu Bello University in 1980 and also trained at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Nigeria.

3. Daura was the Director General of the Nigerian State Security Service from July 2, 2015 to August 7, 2018.

4. He began his career in 1982 at the State Security Service where he rose to the position of director.

5. In 2003, he was appointed, Deputy Director Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre at the Presidential Villa, a position he held till 2007.

6. On July 2, 2015, he was appointed director General of the State Security Service.

7. On August 7, 2018, Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo terminated his appointment over the invasion of the National Assembly by DSS operatives.

8. Daura confessed he advised Abubakar Malami, minister of justice and attorney-general of the federation to meet with the wanted Abdulrasheed Maina last year which resulted to his (Maina) return to the civil service.

9. In March, 2016, the house of representatives gave Daura 48 hours to appear before it and explain the alleged invasion of the Ekiti state house of assembly by the DSS.

10. In August 05, 2015 the Senate invited him to clarify the role of the DSS in matters of the Rivers state election tribunal. The DSS had detained Gesila Khan, resident electoral commissioner of INEC in the state, over the 2015 general election.
