Manchester City twice came from behind to draw 2-2 against Liverpool in a thrilling match between the Premier League giants on Sunday as Tottenham won to ease the pressure on Nuno Espirito Santo.

Mohamed Salah appeared to have won the game at a frenzied Anfield after Phil Foden had cancelled out Sadio Mane’s opener but Kevin De Bruyne’s late deflected shot rescued a point for Pep Guardiola’s men.

The result leaves the Premier League title race tantalisingly poised, with Liverpool a point behind leaders Chelsea and City in third place alongside a clutch of other clubs, two points off the top.

Earlier, Spurs beat Aston Villa 2-1 and Leicester drew 2-2 at Crystal Palace while new boys Brentford scored deep into stoppage time to beat West Ham 2-1.

City’s dropped points against Southampton last month looked potentially costly, with tricky away matches to come against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi suffered his first loss as a Paris Saint-Germain player as the Ligue 1 leaders failed to register a single shot on target in a 2-0 defeat at Rennes on Sunday.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe were both guilty of missing good chances in the first half and Messi saw a trademark free-kick cannon back out off the crossbar, but Rennes ended up taking the lead just before the interval via a Gaetan Laborde volley.

PSG fell even further behind just after the restart as Flavien Tate doubled the home side’s advantage and Mbappe saw a goal ruled out for offside later in the second half, with the visitors ultimately losing with all 13 of their shots at goal failing to hit the target.
