It was the final day of the 2012-2013 season and Lobi Stars at the brink of relegation needed victory to survive and when the home side were awarded a penalty in the first half and when Nanen Barnabas Imenger jr stepped forward to take it, his father fainted.
Although the member of the Home-based Eagles converted the kick to hand Lobi the vital lead, his father who was already down could not join in the resultant celebration.
Imenger senior who has recovered and was on the technical bench when Lobi Stars played the Home-based Eagles in Abuja on Tuesday told Daily Trusted that he passed out due to the torrent of thoughts that flooded his mind when his son accepted to take the bull by the horns.
The ex-El-kanenmi Warriors striker said his thoughts ran to what would happen, if his son misses the crucial kick and his blood pressure shot up astronomically and that was how he fainted on the bench.
“It’s true that I fainted on the bench when my son moved to take the penalty that was awarded. As a father I was thinking of the consequences, if he failed.
“Nobody was ready to take the kick but he showed courage. I did not oppose but at that crucial moment, I could not withstand the fear and tension that mounted inside me and I fainted.
“However, I was immediately attended to and I recovered and was able to see the glorious day to its very end. As I talk to you I have recovered to the glory of God and that is why you can see me here”.
“I thank God my son emerged the hero of the night. He grabbed a brace to help Lobi survive the drop”, he said.
Imenger however said his condition was not as bad as feared by many who heard the news of the near tragic incident.
