The midfielder was among the over 50 home based players who took part in the recently concluded Ibadan camp of the national U-23 team.

Speaking to Feverpitch on his experience, the combative midfielder said he said even as he could not make the thirty man list, he was elated with the opportunity given to him by the coach.

He said while in the camp, he learnt some new things which have improved his game and he would forever cherish the period he spent in the camp.

Orkuma also said he gave a good account of himself as he was among the last batch of players who were dropped adding that on daily basis; at least fifteen players were decamped.

According to the former player of Babanawa FC, his invitation to the U-23 camp goes to show that the present NFF is keen on giving talented players the opportunity to play for their fatherland.

He said his call up came to him as surprise because he had always believed that without a godfather, one would not be invited to the national team.

“Even as I did not make the team for the final phase of camping, I know I gave a good account of myself. Every day at least fifteen players were decamped but some of us remained till the final day. This means we did not do badly.

“I have benefitted from the training I got during my stay in camp. I will forever be grateful to the coaches for giving me the opportunity. Now I know that even without a godfather, one day I will play for this country”.

Orkuma also said his immediate concern is to ensure that his club wins its remaining three matches in the Nigerian Premier League.

“I have since put behind me the U-23 invitation. My priority now is to help my club win its remaining matches in the NPL. We are hoping to bounce back from our defeat against Zamfara United”, he stated.
