Two medical consultants have opened a partnership with a Nigerian hospital to stem the flow of Nigerian patients to their specialty in the United Arab Emirate (UAE).

Dr Yasir Parviz, an interventional cardiologist, and Dr Basim Alkhafaji, a laparoscopic general and obesity surgeon, both consultants at a Dubai-based hospital have treated number of Nigerian patients at their practice.

Their partnership with View Point Hospital Gwarimpa started with a medical camp to consult patients.

Parviz said one way to collaborate with Nigerian hospitals is clinically where management of patients is involved, teach and train medical personnel as well as share ideas and experience.

Parviz said what is happening in the rest of the world, is that people link-up, collaborate and share ideas and things move.

“We want to be able to link up with more hospitals. As we link-up, people don’t have to travel to see us. We saw many patients in Dubai, so we are following up on some of them here,” he said.

Aisha Rimi, among patients seen on follow-up, said “Last two years, we travelled to Dubai for a heart surgery. I am happy the medical personnel came to this hospital. With them around, I have been able to do follow-up and check-ups. With this kind of collaboration, I will not have to travel to Dubai.”
