It was gathered that staff training was no longer the birth right of senior staff alone but junior staff also went on training at Tsiga’s tenure.
“In order to complement his efforts in ensuring maximum input, a lot of transfers were carried out. Many members had been in one station for more than a decade and this brought about dearth of initiative,” a staff said.
Sunday Trust also learnt that a permanent committee for staff housing loan was inaugurated during his tenure to ensure that every staff owns a house. It was disclosed that a large number of staff benefitted from the loan.
Speaking to Sunday Trust, a corps member who is on his way out of his one year service, Olumide Adakeja said it was impossible to forget the out gone DG especially on the role he played as father to the corps members. If there was no reason to commend Tsiga, the increment of the corps members monthly allowance from N9, 750 to N19, 500 was okay for Olumide as he said the money has helped him in so many ways.
The opportunity given to the corps members to partake in a national assignment in conducting the general elections was okay for Stella Adah, a corps member serving in Abuja.
According to her, the opportunity came during Tsiga’s tenure and it made her responsible. His concern and ‘fatherly’ role when the 10 corps members were killed in Bauchi during the post election violence also gave Stella hope to take any risk while serving her fathers land during his tenure.
Abdullahi Mann, a corps member who had passed out of service recalled how Tsiga encouraged them to make the best use of their service year to serve their fatherland diligently and get everything that will equip them well in their lives after service and he testified that indeed everything is helping him.
Abdulazeez Ibrahim, president of a CDS group ‘ECO VANGUARD’ regretted that Tsiga was not still in service to reap the fruits of his labor after fighting for the increment and security of the corps members.
On assumption to office in January 2009, Tsiga identified some of the challenges setting the scheme backward which were corps welfare and security, corps empowerment and post-service employment, staff welfare and motivation, institutional renewal of the scheme for better grass roots administration, exclusion of monotechnics and professional institutions, revamping of obsolete and decaying infrastructure and emphasizing the relevance of the scheme through collaborative programmes.
Tsiga maintained an open door policy which ensured that every staff was carried along the process of policy formulation and implementation for the scheme to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the nation.
Corps members welfare and security and rejection of corps members by employers, death of corps members during civil crises amongst others were resolved by the out gone DG through improved allowances.
Part of his achievements was tackling the issues of decayed infrastructures in the orientation camps. The scheme in collaboration with governors and ministries in the states built ultra-modern camps in states such as Osun, Nasarawa, Kano, Abia, Katsina and Ogun states while some other states are also constructing such camps.
His tenure in the last two years constructed large capacity multipurpose halls at the orientation camps in Ondo and Rivers States, renovation and expansion of multipurpose halls in Bayelsa and Kwara states, provision of 1,000 KVA generating sets to eight orientation camps across the country, provision of 500 plastics chairs to each of the orientation camps across the country, renovation of corps members hostels in Enugu and FCT camps, Provision of beds and mattresses to all the camps as well as provision of new Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) equipment as well as Man ‘O’ War gadgets.
Tsiga tenure rehabilitated and expanded some offices of the scheme nationwide as such as the construction of office complex in Ebonyi state, acquisition and partitioning of FCT secretariat, construction of office extension in Enugu state, renovation of secretariats in Cross River, Kano and Zamfara states as well as construction of corpers transit lodge in the premises of Kano secretariat.
