Super Eagles’ Coordinator, Patrick
Pascal, has expressed happiness
over the recent transfer of
Nigeria’s attacking winger,
Ademola Lookman, from Italian
giants, Atalanta to Atletico
Madrid in LaLiga.
In a related development, he
predicted that more Super Eagles
players would move to top clubs in the
next transfer window in Europe.
Th e former Nigerian international
said aft er the Super Eagles impressive
performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of
Nations (AFCON) in Morocco where
they won a record-extending ninth
bronze medal, most big clubs in Europe
are interested in the services of the
players.
Lookman joined Atlético Madrid on
February 2, 2026, following a permanent
transfer from the Italian side Atalanta.
Th e move was fi nalized on the deadline
day of the winter transfer window
While Lookman had reportedly
agreed to personal terms with the
Turkish side, they were unable to reach
an agreement on the transfer fee with
Atalanta.
This allowed
Atlético Madrid to step
in with a decisive bid
late in the window.
Th e deal is valued
at approximately
€40 million and the
Super Eagles’ star will
earn approximately €6
million to €7 million per
season, a signifi cant increase
from his earnings in Italy.
Reacting to the big move by Lookman,
Pascal said “I’m really happy to see one
of our national team players in a big
club. We’re likely to see more transfers
from our boys because they performed
exceptionally well in Morocco.
“Th is shows that our players can
compete anywhere in the world, which
is a huge plus for us. I wish him all the
best in his new team.”
Th e Chairman of Bauchi State
Football Association (FA), however,
advised Lookman’s fans to be patient
with him as he said the highly talented
player will need time to adapt to the
playing style in LaLiga.
