Irrigation farming may suffer set back as a result of scarcity of farm inputs like Fertilizer, seeds, water pumps, pests and weed control chemicals following looting of warehouses where the inputs kept.

A large scale rice farmer and owner of Al_Ganzaki rice processing plant in Jalingo, Aliyu Sarkin Noma alerted that following looting of warehouses in Jalingo there is going to be scarcity of basic inputs which will result in high cost.

He told Daily Trust in an interview that thousands tons of Fertilizer, Thousands units of water pumps, seeds, chemicals among other inputs meant for rice farming during the dry season in the state were carted away by hoodlums.

He said what happened during the looting in government and private warehouses in Jalingo would affect rice farming in the state during the dry season.

Aliyu Sarkin Noma, stated further that the inputs were stored in warehouse and was to be distributed to rice farmers for the dry season and now farmers are to start planting but inputs are scarce in the market.

He further stated that thousands of dry season farmers across the state would find it difficult to carryout their farming activities this season due to high cost of inputs.

“The situation will hamper rice production during the dry season in the state this year” he said.

The state chairman of rice farmers Association, Tanko Bobbo Andame said they are taking stock of destruction done by looters in their Warehouse and the national body of the Association would soon comment on the issue.
