The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Ede on Wednesday paraded 56 suspects that allegedly looted materials and vandalised property worth several millions of naira in Lokoja, the state capital between Sunday and Monday this week.
He said the suspects were arrested by men of the Command following investigation.
He said exhibits recovered from the suspects include spraying pump machines, agrochemicals, cartons of surgical gloves, motorcycles and spare parts.
Other exhibits recovered include Peugeot 407 with Reg. N0. Lagos APP 897 AZ containing different types of assorted drugs and medical equipment stolen from the Government’s Essential Drugs warehouse, amongst other sundry items.
He said all the suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Government has said that hoodlums invaded its Central Medical Store in Lokoja during which they looted and vandalised medical equipment and consumables worth billions of naira.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Audu, disclosed this at a press conference yesterday in Lokoja after he led a team from the ministry and the media to inspect the burgled medical store located along Zone 8, Lokoja.
According to him, medical equipment such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Computed Tomography machines, Digital Mammography, Digital Radiography, consumables, drugs, office furniture, air conditioners, solar power unit, fans, among others were either looted or vandalised.
Also speaking, Dr Abubakar Yakubu, the Executive Director, Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KSPHCDA), noted that 20 tonnes capacity cold room recently built for vaccines by the agency was completely vandalised and its 100KVA inverter and 36 solar batteries carted away.
