The President, represented by the minister of education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i, said it is on that ground that the education sector form part of his transformation agenda. He said Nigerian universities should less their dependence on government as it cannot meet all its funds demands.

President Jonathan therefore urged them to source for funds through viable collaboration with their alumni and private bodies in order to boost the standard of learning, research and infrastructures. He said Universities can be of great help in his administration’s strides of transforming the country.

Earlier in his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, said despite the tremendous achievements that the University recorded in the areas of research, upgrading of teaching and research facilities as well as enhancing the welfare of staff and students, the university is facing some serious challenges.
