Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Saturday, declared open the 44th edition of the Kano International Trade Fair amidst a low turnout of exhibitors.

Over 200 companies from more than 10 countries are expected to participate in the fair, titled, “Economic diversification, inclusive growth and sustainable development.”

Governor Yusuf, represented by the commissioner for investment and commerce Abbas Sani Abbas, said the state government was opening up its frontiers for domestic and international investors by creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive in the state.

The governor commended the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA), led by Garba Imam for making Kano a role model in commerce, industry, solid minerals, investments and business development.

However, only few companies have so far opened for business. Many exhibitors are seen erecting their stands at trade fair ground.

Daily Trust on Sunday reports that the low turnout on the first day of the trade fair may be attributed to the political tension in the state created by planned protests and rallies by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) the same day over the court of appeal verdict on the Kano State governorship election delivered on November 17.

The Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero, was represented at the ceremony by Dangaladiman Kano, Kabiru Tijjani Hashim.
