The National Women Leader of Labour Party, Dudu Manuga, says the party is committed to eliminating violence against women and girls in politics and in the electoral circle.

She said this Saturday in Abuja at an event held in commemoration of the International Day for the elimination of violence against women and girls.

The programme was also to commemorate the commencement of the16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, with the theme: “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”.

She said this year, the party had planned various activities for the upcoming 16 Days across the 36 states and the FCT.

These activities, according to her, are aimed at raising awareness of Gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response.

Dr Grace Atim, Gender and Social Safeguards Specialist, said: “There is need for sustained awareness and value re-orientation campaigns on the importance of politics that is free from violence so that more women can confidently participate in politics and contribute their own quota to national development.”

Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, the national youth leader of the party, said: “More women should be given opportunities in the society to lead processes. Women are strong, responsible, and passionate about what they do. More women must participate in politics, more women must come to leadership positions and more women must be community leaders.”
