Worried by the internal crisis that has dogged the party in the recent time, the Labour Party (LP) has set up a security, peace and conflict resolution committee to settle aggrieved parties before next year’s general elections. 

The crisis in the LP had led to the purported sacking of Dr Doyin Okupe, the Director General of the Obi/Datti Presidential Campaign Council among others.

The Chief Spokesman of the LP Presidential Campaign Council, Dr  Yunusa Tanko, told newsmen yesterday in Abuja that the National Executive Committee (NEC) constituted the peace committee rather than a disciplinary committee to resolve all issues before the polls.

He said the committee is expected to start receiving complaints from interested aggrieved party members immediately to enable it to conclude its assignment within the shortest possible time.

“The LP is one big family and the fastest growing political party in Africa and as such minor internal conflicts and misunderstanding such as witnessed in recent past cannot be ruled out. 

“The purpose of this committee therefore is to ensure the peaceful resolutions of all the grievances and further strengthen and promote the unity of our great party towards achieving the goals and tasks ahead of 2023,” he said.
