State chairmen of the Labour Party (LP) have passed a vote of confidence on their National Chairman, Julius Abure, following his alleged suspension by some members of the party in his ward in Edo State.

State executive members of the party who stormed the national headquarters of the party yesterday in Abuja described the suspension as the handiwork of impostors being sponsored by other political parties to destabilise the success recorded by the party in the just concluded general elections.

Some people claiming to be ward executives of the party in Edo, led by Martins Osigbemhe, last week in Abuja, announced the suspension of Abure over alleged mismanagement of funds and other forms of anti-party activities.

However, the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the party, Kelly Ogbaloi, said the constitution of the party didn’t empower any group or party members to suspend a national officer who was elected by a national convention, let alone those he described as impostors who were not registered party members.

He said, “Barrister Julius Abure remains the national chairman of our party, and we have since passed a vote of confidence on him and he shall take this party forward. No reasonable person will come and be talking about the suspension of a chairman who had delivered on the election that we just have concluded.”
