“The issue of threat has always been a recurring thing in Barrister Kayode’s life due to the kind of cases he handles. He handles political cases because he is a lawyer beside his ambition to be the senator representing the FCT. For the past two weeks now he has been complaining of threats to his life but he never took it to be serious and saw it as one of those things politicians contend with when they are vying for a political office.”
Speaking on the incident, Barrister Nathaniel said: “He went for an interview at Aso FM on Thursday and on his way back saw some people dressed in his campaign T-shirts trying to flag him down and he concluded that maybe they might have been to his office and met his absence. So he told his brother who was driving to stop the vehicle and so he could talk to them. When they came closer they told him that the y had vital information for him which was very important and he told them to join him in the car. It was upon entering the car that they brought out their guns and told him that the car behind was one of theirs.”
“From there, they asked them to turn towards the direction of Kubwa and they veered off towards Bwari and asked the brother to get out, then they then transferred the Barrister to their own car and drove off, leaving his car behind. Since then we have kept vigil if they would call but till now we have not heard anything from them. We cannot reach him because his sim card was removed and his phones were left behind.”
Speaking to Weekly Trust on the issue, FCT Labour Party Chairman, Mr. Adedoti Peter said they have made complaints to the police, Commissioner of Police FCT and the Director State Security Service and told given them the relevant information they need to know. He added: “It is unfortunate that this is happening just some days to the senatorial elections. The political tension in the country is too high. We cannot rule out the incident from politics; Barrister Kayode is an easy-going person and would not indulge in any dirty deal to dent his image. It is dangerous as we have not heard a single word from his kidnappers, we do not how he is faring neither do we know what they want or their intentions are. Another unfortunate aspect of the whole thing is that the police have not gotten back to us till now. We pray and hope he is okay wherever they might have him held.”
Force PPRO, Mashood Jimoh, when contacted on the issue said: “We are still investigating the matter and exploiting some leads which will lead to some positive results very soon.” A visit to the Barrister’s campaign office saw most staff wearing a sober face and urging the police to step up their investigation to unravel the case.
