LRCN, NITDA train librarians on software application

A statement from LRCN’s Information Officer Ngozi Oboh said the training aimed to sharpen the skills of all librarians in Nigeria to be able to access online resources that are free and use in the different categories of libraries across the country.
At the opening ceremony, the Registrar/CEO of Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), Dr Victoria Okojie said the workshop would expose librarians on how to apply Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in Library Operations, so as to make more resources available to
library users.
Dr Okojie said that with the level of technological advancement being witnessed today, librarians should be adequately armed with skills to
become key players in the ICT techno-savvy environment, deploying and applying ICTs to improve the lot of information seekers.
“They must be adept with new tools and deft in using them to create, generate and disseminate information,” she said.
Speaking at the workshop, the Acting  Director General of NITDA, Dr Daura Ashiru who was represented by the agency’s Director Corporate
Strategy and Research, Mr Emeka Ezekwesili  said librarians should utilize the abundant opportunities made available by the ICTs and leverage on them for better information
service delivery.
