Following Coach Amodu’s recent release of the list of 23-man squad for the nations Cup, there have been criticisms in some quarters as most football fans still believe that the players assembled for the continental championship may not live up to expectations when hostilities commence on January 10.

Such critics have insisted that the present squad is built around those players who represented the country at Ghana 2008 and were responsible for the nation’s worst outing at the Africa Cup of nations in recent times.

However, speaking to Trustsports, the NFF president called on Nigerians to exercise faith and confidence in the team as he said once given the necessary support, Eagles  would go ahead to do well at the nations Cup.

Lulu maintained that the Eagles players have shown tremendous commitment of late and should be spared some of the comments which are capable of distracting them.

He said the present morale in the team’s camp is really high and barring unforeseen circumstances, the team will prove critics wrong by putting up superlative performances.

“The players we are taking to Angola are the best and there is nothing to suggest that they will not do well.  I therefore want to ask Nigerians to remain faithfully behind the team. If given the necessary support, nothing will stop the Eagles from soaring in Angola.

“In as much as criticism is good for the team, it is said too much of everything is bad. I want Nigerians to give the coaches and the players a chance to succeed. If there is anything we can do as Nigerians to support the team, let us bring it out now”.

Lulu said that at the level of the Nigeria Football Federation, the team has been given all the necessary support and what is now left is for the players to play their part.

 “We have provided the required motivation for the team. We are going to ensure that everything the players need is provided in sufficient quantity. And from whom much is given much is expected. Therefore, the players who are keen on making a name for themselves have also resolved to do well”.

The NFF president thanked true football fans in the country for their support just as he reiterated that for Eagles to succeed, every Nigerian must show genuine interest in the team and should be ready to exercise enough faith and confidence even when the going is rough.
