In a bid to reduce the number of patients rejected due to lack of space, the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) has commenced the building of a new ultra-modern outpatient clinic.
The project when completed will comprise of five buildings with each comprising of four floors.
According to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of LUTH, Prof Chris Bode, the Centre when completed will comprise of 256 consultation rooms, 16 waiting rooms, 16 nursing stations, eight meeting rooms, eight patient lifts, 120-car park, cafeteria, among others.
He revealed that the project is possible through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila who has agreed to champion the project through an intervention fund from the National Assembly.
Gbajabiamila had on Monday after delivering a lecture at the 52nd Convocation ceremony of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) moved to the University’s College of Medicine at Idi-Araba for foundation laying of a new medical outpatient Centre for the benefit of LUTH, the community and members of the public.
The speaker identified lack of facilities and medical infrastructure as the leading cause of death in hospitals as many patients are not accommodated due to lack of space.
He urged the contractors to speed up the work, which is projected to be completed between 12 to 18 months.
