The Head Coach of Doma United, Najib Mabo, has attributed the “Savannah Tigers” promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to the absolute confidence reposed in him by the proprietor of the club, Alhaji Suleiman Umar.
Doma United who were relegated to the lower division in 2024 booked their ticket to the Nigerian topflight from Conference C with a match to spare.
Although they fell 1-3 at KADA Warriors in their last match of the season, there was no harm to their promotion ambition as Doma United finished top of the table with 26 points, having won 8 in 14 matches
Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, Mabo said the promotion wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of the owner of the club who provided everything needed to secure the ticket.
He said apart from non-interference in technical matters, the club president ensured prompt payment of salaries, match bonuses and travelling allowances which he said contributed immensely to the outstanding performances.
“I want to use this opportunity to extend my sincere appreciation to the president of Doma United, Alhaji Suleiman Umar (Mai Doma) who reposed so much confidence in me.
“When I was hired, he assured me that he was not going to interfere in my job. And as the gentleman that he is, he kept to his promise.
“In fact, when he found out that I was able to handle the pressure in Mighty Jets, he gave me the free hand without imposing a single player on me.
“He provided all necessary equipment I demanded for us to achieve this promotion,” he said.
Najib, son of the legendary Ismaila Mabo, expressed happiness that he repaid his boss’ trust with the ticket to NPFL.
“He trusted me honestly, and I am happy that I paid him back with the NPFL ticket,” concluded Mabo jnr.
