The Chairman of the FCT chapter of the Miyyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Wakili Madugu, said the federal government’s move to begin infrastructural development at the Kawu grazing reserve is a welcome development. However, he added that the grazing reserve in Paikon Kore in the Gwagwalada Area Council should also be considered.

Madugu spoke to Abuja Metro on Sunday in Gwagwalada, while reacting to the development where the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has started the relocation process of herders to the 9,000-hectare Kawu reserve in the Bwari Area Council.

He said such a move would not only address cases of herders moving around with their cattle in the city center of Abuja but would also tackle incessant clashes between farmers and herders in various FCT communities.

He said the grazing reserve in Paikon Kore has continued to be a serious concern for the association, as he believes successive FCT administrations have failed to compensate farmers over the years.
