One of the leading tennis players in Nigeria, Nonso Madueke, has announced his determination to fight for the top prize of N600,000 at the ongoing Rainoil Tennis Tournament in Lagos when he overwhelmed his opponent, Canice Akpan 4-0 in their match.

The top seed Madueke who proved too strong for his opponent made use of his good serves to win all the sets and advance to the next stage of the money-spinning event.

Speaking after his victory, Madueke said, “I am happy to win this match after my disappointing performance in Abuja where I crashed out in the first round.

 “You know it’s not easy playing on clay because you’ve to keep hitting the ball and with the way, I played today by the special Grace of God. I hope to get to the finals.”

In the other matches, top seeds Imeh Joseph and Marylove Edwards strolled past Umoh Joseph and Chidinma Eze respectively.

 Idaware David, Adebisi Ayomide, Audu Muktar and Aiyegbusi Aanu also recorded victories over Olowu Idris, Godgift Timbra, Udofia Mary respectively in the Men and Ladies categories

The tournament which has attracted 64 male and 32 female players in the singles event continues today at the clay courts of Lagos Country Club. Ikeja, Lagos.

The competition will end on Saturday, December 1. Winners in the Men’s singles will receive N600,000 and runners up N300,000 while winners in Ladies singles would smile home with N500,00 just as the runner up in the category would earn N250,000 cash prize.
