Speaking at a brief ceremony held at the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Medicine, (BUK) Dr. Danjuma Mahmud said the scholarship scheme was borne out of his desire to assist the less privileged students, noting that the scheme started in his village, Dawakin Kudu, where students were refunded fees upon presenting receipts of the registration fees paid to institutions.
According to a university bulletin made available to Daily Trust in Abuja, there are over 257 students pursuing Masters Degree, Degree, Diploma and National Certificate of Education (N.C.E.) at different tertiary institutions benefitting from his scholarships.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, expressed gratitude and commended Dr. Mahmud for his philanthropic gesture, saying that his benevolence would assist the students greatly in their academics just as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Abdurrazak Habib, said the gesture will impact positively on the development of education.
Some of the beneficiaries interviewed expressed happiness and commended Dr. Mahmud for his timely intervention in their studies and assured that the money will be judiciously used.
