Speaking to the players at their lunch table inside the Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos yesterday, Maigari lamented that Nigeria football is at a low at the moment and the Supersand Eagles can help erase memories of poor outings by the National Teams in the last quarter of the outgoing year.
He said it is also important to have something to present to the President and Commander-In-Chief, His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR as the year is ending.
“Our football is at a low and ball fans are not happy. I want you to go all out and win the Copa Lagos tournament in order for us to have something to give Nigerians as Christmas present. You have an opportunity to make us all smile with only few days left in the year.
“Our results have been poor lately, but I believe you guys have the ability to do well and make us forget the poor last quarter of the year that is ending in the next fortnight. You have started well by beating South Africa on Friday; all you need do now is go all out and conquer England and Brazil”, said Maigari, who also advised the team to show the kind of discipline and great spirit that won it the FIFA Fair-Play Trophy at the World Cup in September.
Maigari praised the Supersand Eagles for the spirit they have shown in four different competitions of significance this year, viz the African Beach Soccer Championship in Casablanca, Morocco in June where the team finished second; the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Ravenna, Italy in September where the team reached the quarter finals; the FIFA Intercontinental Beach Soccer Championship in Dubai in November where the team finished in fifth place among eight teams and; the on-going COPA Lagos 2011 Beach Football Tournament.
