The chairman of Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, has called on elders of Dogon Ruwa community in Gawu ward of the council to maintain peace among themselves irrespective of ethnic and religious affiliations in the area.

Ajiya, represented by the council secretary, Alhaji Kamal Adamu Shuaibu, stated this at a meeting with the community elders which had representatives of various security agencies, including state security services in attendance.

He said the call became necessary due to controversy trailing the opening of a market at the community, which he said some group of persons were against it despite the council had given the approval.

He said a minor issue of such nature could degenerate into break down of law and order, hence, there was the  need for all elders including the youth to work collectively for peace, harmony and development of the community.

“When some elders from Dogon Ruwa came to me with a proposal that they wanted to establish a market, I quickly gave approval because I believe that gradually, we will derive revenue from the market too,” he said.

Also speaking, the Etsu of Yaba, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, stressed the need for residents of the community to live in peace with one another, saying since the community is under his chiefdom, he cannot fold his hands and allow any break down of law and order. 

City News learnt that the council authorities had summoned elders of Dogon Ruwa over controversy trailing the move to establish a Friday market in the area, which some group of people kicked against, a situation that almost caused strife.
