The Director General/Chief Executive, Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, has asked block makers, cement producers and building engineers to maintain standards in order to tame incidences of building collapse in the country.
Okeke spoke on Thursday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at a one-day sensitisation workshop for block moulders.
The DG who was represented by the Director of Southwest, Talatu Ethan, noted that building collapse remains a major challenge in Nigeria’s economy as it poses a threat to the construction industry and development at large.
The Coordinator of SON, Ogun State office I, Engr Jerome Otene Umoru, disclosed that less than 20 industries have been duly certified to mould blocks in Ogun State.
